 The field of gastrointestinal biology has been transformed by an explosion of knowledge for gastrointestinal motility, absorption, and secretion. This book, a comprehensive treatise on the causes, diagnosis, and management of gastrointestinal-motility disorders, consists of eighteen chapters with extensive references contained in slightly fewer than 300 pages. It achieves its goal through generally lucid writing and the overlap of information from chapter to chapter commonly observed in multi-authored works. Therefore, the reader is best advised to go through this book in a relaxed manner; this will allow them to finish it in a relatively short amount of time and appreciate the field of gastrointestinal motility, particularly current practices and research methods for solving its many riddles. All the chapters are clearly written, but the target audience seems to vary from medical students to practicing gastroenterologists. Dr. Senthilkumar Rajagopal secured PhD in Biochemistry from Annamalai University, INDIA. He did his three Post-doctoral researches in Anesthesiology in University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, followed by Department of Cancer Immunology & AIDS, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts and, Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, USA. He is currently working as a Scientist at Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad, INDIA. Dr. Senthilkumar is a recipient of Rameshwardasji Birla Smarak Kosh Endowment award from Mumbai Medical Trust, Mumbai, INDIA and Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship from Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Dr. Senthilkumar has more than 10 years of research experiences in various fields such as Alcoholic hepatotoxicity, Voltage gated calcium channels, protein kinase C phosphorylation, ADAM family, Smooth muscle physiology, G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathways, Neurotransmitters transporters to Central Nervous system. He has published nearly 40 research articles in various peer-reviewed international journals, 5 book chapters, 7 abstracts, 37 conferences proceedings/abstracts and attended 30 various workshops/seminars in India, Canada and USA.
