The book ''Protection of Women and Children in Armed Conflicts'' is a collection of provisions of International Law that aim to analyze the protection of women and minors in situations of armed conflict. The provisions listed in this handbook afford women protection against sexual violence. The purpose is to collect together the major International Law documents on the protection of women and children during armed conflicts in a one stop place where the documents were available for easy reference. This edited handbook carefully collects the major documents on International Law, through the early practice after the Hague and the Geneva Conventions, the First World War as well as the Nuremberg and Tokyo International Military Tribunals up to the present. It also includes the statutes of the ad hoc Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, other special Courts and Tribunals as well as the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and its associated documents, including the elements of crimes that were adopted to assist the Court, and its Rules of Procedure and Evidence. The book also includes the main treaty provisions that provide the basis of the subject. The purpose of quoting this collection of international binding texts is to make this book a useful tool, both for the theoretical scholar and for the practitioner, to find the provisions that protect civilians in the context of the international community in general. The selection of the texts was made in the light of the influence that the specifics have on the international legal order and the international practice so that the reader is able to participate actively and with direct access to the sources that protect women and minors during the period of armed conflict.
