This book is designed to acquaint students of English not only with sports and athletic terminology, but with the way in which this terminology has become part of everyday English idioms. All languages have phrases and sentences that cannot be understood literally. Even if all the words in a phrase are known, and the grammar understood completely, the meaning may still be confusing. This book contains many basic and useful idiomatic phrases, using sports terminology, that occur frequently in standar English language. In particular, many of the exercises have been designed to assist students of English in effectively learning and understanding idiomatic English.
